The Head of the Department, Prof. Yuliana Lavrysh, took part in the 32nd International Scientific ICC Conference, where she presented together with Prof. Iryna Simkova on the topic: “AI Chatbots as Mediation Simulators: Facilitating Cross-Cultural Communication in ESP, Exemplified by Engineering.”
The presentation addressed the following key points:
🔹 how AI chatbots can effectively simulate mediation situations in the context of ESP (English for Specific Purposes);
🔹 a comparative analysis of popular AI chatbots (Mizou, Flint, Character AI) in mediation training;
🔹 examples of mediation tasks that can be facilitated by AI, including conflict resolution, simplifying complex concepts for non-experts, and adapting communication styles for different audiences;
🔹 findings from a study on how students and teachers perceive the usefulness of chatbots in developing mediation skills.
