Distance Learning

Distance learning technologies are a much more independent and individualized form of learning. Distance learning is possible anywhere, anytime and accessible to anyone, and today it has become an important component of virtual socialization for an individual.
To succeed in the modern knowledge-based economic system, everyone needs constantly to improve their skills and qualifications.
Distance learning (DL) is traditionally defined as an educational process where a significant part of teaching is carried out by a teacher (or a group of teachers) distant in space and/or time from the student (or group of students).
Thus, in comparison with traditional education, distance learning makes it possible to:
– to expand the audience of students, with minimal expenses (there is no need for printed materials and classrooms, paying transport costs);
– constant contact between the teacher and students;
– involvement of foreign teachers and experts;
– permanent access to regularly updated educational materials;
– regular testing in asynchronous and, most importantly, in synchronous modes;
– implementation of collective forms of education;
– conducting discussions;
– development and implementation of joint projects.

The teachers of the department have developed more than 30 distance courses on the Moodle platform. Teachers also actively use the resources of the Englab platform (Pearson). Classes take place in Zoom, Gmeets, Microsoft Teams video communication tools.

Educational and Research Institute of Aerospace Technologies

Distance course “Professional English” for students of the 3rd year of the Institute of Aerospace Technologies, specialty 134 “Aviation and rocket-space engineering”

ABSTRACT. This course is designed in accordance with the program of the discipline “Professional Foreign language” with the aim of development of professional language skills and abilities of academic writing, reading and listening to scientific and technical texts, as well as enhancing vocabulary comprehension of scientific and technical terminology.
The development of reading skills of authentic scientific and professional texts, the use of lexical-grammatical structures in foreign language, and the development of listening and writing skills are provided by the logical and consistent structure of the course.
The multimedia course consists of six modules, which contain six English-language authentic texts. Students are expected to perform pre-text and post-text exercises, various types of reading and listening activities (for detailed, general and critical understanding), as well as tests (multiple choice, gap fills, finding lexical equivalents, etc.).
Each module also contains written tasks to develop academic writing skills (writing a project application, meeting agenda, abstract, etc.) This course uses visual multimedia tools (video materials, presentations, tables, diagrams, schemes and illustrations) for the development and improvement of students’ skills in various types of speech activities.

E-Learning course “English for Professional Purposes” for 3rd year students of the Institute of Aerospace Technologies, specialty 134 “Aircraft and Rocket Building”

ABSTRACT. The development of abilities of reading of authentic scientific and professional texts, the uses of lexical and grammatical structures in the foreign language speaking and the forming of abilities of listening comprehension and writing is provided by the logical and successive structure of the course.
The multimedia course consists of six modules that contain six English-language authentic texts and various exercises for improving reading and listening comprehension (multiple choice tests, selection of missed words, filling in gaps, etc.) which are given before and after the text. Each module also includes tasks on the development of abilities of academic writing (namely, writing a project proposal, a meeting agenda, an abstract, etc.). The peculiarity of this course is wide implementation of different multimedia materials (video, presentations, tables, diagrams, charts and illustrations) to boost students’ motivation, develop and improve their language skills.
