CONTEST of PRESENTATIONS
“MY SPECIALTY”
among third-year students

You are going to take part in the Contest of Presentations organized by the Faculty of Linguistics. You can prepare it independently or working in pairs or in a group of 3-4 students. Your final task will be to create the presentation about your specialty at our university. Share any information you feel is important and useful about:

  • What motivated you to choose your specialty
  • How important your specialty is in developing the Ukrainian market
  • What the recent trends are in the field your specialty related to
  • What special subjects are required to study to become an expert
  • What the expert has to know
  • What the expert has to be able to do
  • What you like most about your major
  • What perspectives and benefits you can expect after graduation from the university

The guidelines below will help you to prepare the presentation:

– define and set objectives; 
– create a powerful introduction and memorable conclusion;
– outline the body of a speech;  
– structure a speech organizing sequence of parts, design it with relevant visuals applying necessary ICT, and deliver it in a simple and straightforward manner taking care of a high level of culture of speech and communication (see STRUCTURING);

– use appropriate voice and language effectively (articulation, pace of delivery, voice timbre, intonation and pausing (syntactic and psychological) (see STRUCTURING: VOICE & LANGUAGE);

– manage the body language creating a rhetorical image that makes the appearance of a speaker, posture, location in space, eye contact, hand gestures, facial expressions (see BODY LANGUAGE);

– create effective visual aids designing slides, using colours, fonts, charts and graphs in the proper way (see DESIGNING VISUALS); 
– make a presentation dynamic by means of animation;

– stick to the time limits (5 minutes).
